Elisabeth Luce Moore Lecture

Marilynne Robinson: "The Reformed Heritage"

September 27, 2017 (7:00PM)
Margaret Clapp Library Lecture Room

Renowned novelist and essayist Marilynne Robinson will lecture on “The Reformed Heritage” as part of Wellesley’s celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, the National Humanities Medal, and the Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction, Robinson has written compellingly about the Calvinist, or Reformed, tradition in her celebrated trilogy Gilead (2004), Home (2008), and Lila (2014). In her essay collections The Death of Adam (1998) and The Givenness of Things (2015) she has applied Reformed theology as part of a powerful critique of contemporary American culture. In this year’s Elisabeth Luce Moore Lecture, she will give a new reading of the relevance of the Reformed heritage for today.
