Group Fitness Classes
Wellesley College group exercise classes are a great way to relieve stress, tone muscles, and provide a renewed sense of well-being.Group classes are free for all students, faculty, and staff with a sports center membership. Come join our certified instructors for some fun. All levels of fitness are welcome and classes are tiered to accommodate all levels of fitness.

Below is a list of all of the classes that have been offered through the Group Fitness program. Due to student instructor certifications, some classes might not be offered each semester.
This class will be held in the diving well (deep water) of the pool. Flotation belts (provided) will be used. Core strengthening, cardio and range of motion exercises will be stressed to help you reach your fitness goals. Regardless of your age, size, or fitness level, you can achieve your fitness goals. No swimming skills are needed however a comfort in deep water is a must.
Set to fun and energetic music, each class incorporates an upper body workout with weights and a combination of high-intensity sequences of thigh, seat and core exercises at the barre. We always include a releasing stretch after we work a muscle group, which results in stronger and more elongated muscles while gaining flexibility. Each class is designed for you to feel invigorated, challenged, and inspired.
Core and Flow
Core and Flow class is focused on core exercises in all planes of motion followed by yoga inspired stretching and relaxation. This class will leave you feeling stong and invigorated.
HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training)
HIIT is one of the best ways to improve your fitness! In this class you will work hard at your level alternating between intense bursts of activity and less-intense bursts of activity. It is a super efficient way to burn calories, lose fat while maintaining muscle, train your heart to stronger and improve your metabolism. Get ready to sweat and get stronger in one of the best and most efficient workouts around!
Pilates is a system of movement and exercise created and developed by Joseph Hubertus Pilates. Using specially designed moves, Pilates educates, realigns, re-patterns and balances your body. It increases muscle strength while promoting coordination, stamina and flexibility.
A fusion of outdoor riding techniques transferred to the Indoor Cycle for a unique, user-friendly ride that will give you a great cardio workout. Feel your energy surge with this fun, high-powered cycling class including drills, hills and sprints.
A strength training class targeting major muscle groups using various equipment, free weights, and body weight with dynamic stretching before and after. This total body strength class incorporates bursts of cardio into movements intended to help you tone and build strength in all the major muscle groups, including – but not limited to – abs, legs, and arms.
Upper Body Focued Strength: A high energy strength training class targeting major muscle groups in the upper body using free weights and body weight. Class will consist of a high energy cardio-dynamic-stretching fusion, upper bodywork, and end with a rejuvenating 15-minute stretching session. Incorporating bursts of cardio into movements this class will help you tone and build strength in all your major upper body muscle groups.
Lower Body Focused Strength: A dynamic strength training class targeting major muscle groups in the lower body using free weights and body weight. Class will start with a cardio-stretching warm-up and finish with a relaxing instructor-led stretching session. This lower body strength class allows you to focus on your major lower body muscles, especially; glutes, thighs (quads and hamstrings) and lower leg.
Total Body Core
A total body toning class that works on strength training with a focus on the Core muscles. This class includes a mixture of cardio bursts, isolated strength training, and partner work. Using both body-weight and different equipment, the class aims to engage the core in every workout as a way to work towards full body fitness. Don't be afraid to sweat!
An energizing and rejuvenating class welcomes all levels of “yogis.” Focus on pranayama breathing with movement while creating strength and flexibility through a vinyasa flow. You will leave feeling relaxed and refreshed.
A Zumba workout mixes body sculpting movements with dance steps derived from cumbia, merengue, salsa, reggaeton, hip hop, mambo, rumba, flamenco, and calypso and Salsaton. The routines feature aerobic interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms. It targets areas such as the glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and the heart. A Zumba class is typically not formulaic in that instructors often add on their own music choices and choreographies to make their class presentation locally unique.
