A Night of AfroSurrealism and Afrofuturism with P. Djèlí Clark and H.D. Hunter
A Black Speculative Fiction Month Conversation Moderated by Yvette Ndlovu
Oct 16, 4:30–6 PM
Newhouse Center Lounge
Free and open to the public
In celebration of Black Speculative Fiction Month in October, two speculative fiction authors—P. Djèlí Clark, the author of Ring Shout; and Hugh "H.D." Hunter, author of Futureland—will read from their work, followed by a discussion and Q&A. Both Afrofuturism and AfroSurrealism contemplate the Black experience by looking at the past, examining the present, and dreaming the future through the lens of Black liberation and imagination. We will explore the intersections of the two genres and how science fiction and fantasy enable us to foster social change. The conversation will be moderated by Yvette Ndlovu.
