The science collections support the science and mathematics curriculum at Wellesley College with material covering biological sciences and biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, geosciences, mathematics, neuroscience, physical education and athletics, physics, and psychology. This rich and diverse collection is located on the second floor of Clapp Library and is open to the public. A non-circulating astronomy collection can be found in the Whitin Observatory. The science collections are under active development and requests are welcome.
Access & Use
Please refer to Wellesley College Library’s Access & Borrowing Policies for details. Borrowing privileges are granted to members of the Wellesley College Community and to individuals affiliated with designated institutions that are formally linked to the College.
Course reserves are materials that faculty members require for students’ course work. Physical materials, such as books and DVDs, generally check out for 3 hours while electronic reserves are available 24/7.
To find reserves for your course in the online catalog, select “Reserves by Course” or “Reserves by Professor” from the course reserves site. Write down the call number of the item(s) you want, and request them at the Clapp Library circulation desk.
Faculty who wish to place print or electronic resources on reserve may fill out the request form.
Requesting New Material
Please use the Suggest a Purchase request form for new library books, DVDs, etc. or contact Sarah Barbrow, the Science Librarian. Purchasing requests should be made early in the process to allow for shipping and cataloging.
