Allison Steitz ’16

She is considering writing her thesis on the different forms of women’s participation in South Africa’s anti-apartheid movement and assessing their impact. She is looking forward to studying abroad in South Africa in spring, 2015 and hopes to gather more information to narrow her potential thesis topic. In the summer of 2014, Allison worked as an intern in the Office of US Foreign Assistance Resources at the Department of State, where she contributed to the redesign of the Foreign Assistance Dashboard, a website that serves as a repository for the foreign aid spending data of all US Agencies to increase the transparency of US foreign assistance to the public. During the summer of 2013, Allison interned in the Office of Budget and Resource Management at the US Agency for International Development where she assessed levels of democracy, rights, and governance in health, agricultural, and environmental programs of various missions in African countries during the fiscal year 2012. She currently works as a research assistant at Wellesley’s Office of Institutional Research, where she helps design surveys and write survey summary reports, and compiles data for the annual Wellesley College Factbook. She hopes to spend the summer of 2015 interning in a social advocacy organization in South Africa.
