She is writing her thesis on the politicization of Sunni and Shi’a identities under Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship in Iraq. This past summer, she interned at The Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, working in development. In the fall of 2016, Emily studied abroad in Rabat, Morocco, in an intensive, immersive Arabic language program through Middlebury College. As part of her program, she signed a language pledge that committed her to only speak Arabic in every aspect of her life; she was delighted to learn that she could still make people laugh in a foreign language. On campus, she was the News Editor and the Managing Editor at The Wellesley News during her sophomore and junior years. Emily is pursuing a career in foreign correspondence, bringing together her commitment to exploring identity politics, cycles of violence, and grassroots peacemaking, with her passion for storytelling.
