Jelimo Kimutai ’24

She is passionate about how these two fields intersect to develop innovative systems that address real-world challenges such as in education, health, and finance, with a focus on making a meaningful impact in underserved or developing communities.

In the summer of 2023, she worked as a data analyst in the Development lab at MIT, working under the clay pot cooler project; a design research project that harnesses simple and cost-effective technology using locally available materials to increase the shelf life of up to 4 days of perishable food in arid countries.

On campus, she works as a Clapp library assistant and at the IT help desk as a computer support referral. She also is the president of an on-campus organization called BVCC(Black Venture Capital Consortium) the Harambee chapter, an organization that aims to increase diversity in the venture capital and startup ecosystem with the aim to reduce the wealth disparity that exists between minorities specifically Black people and the white. She is also an active member of WASA(Wellesley African Student Association), where she served as the vice president in the last academic year and Slater, the international student organization where she served as the African representative.

Jelimo aims upon graduation to continue further studies in graduate school and pursue a Ph.D. in data analytics/science with an aim in development economics and possibly do an MBA at the same time.
