Kayla Nakeeb ’21

Kayla has a special interest in the way that cultural production captures responses to social and political policy, especially in the context of decolonialization. She recently spent the summer in Brazil as a 2019 U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholar. She speaks Spanish and Portuguese. Since the fall of 2018, Kayla has interned with the Safety Net Project at Harvard Law School’s WilmerHale Legal Services Center where she writes and translates legal self-help resources, organizes collaborative events with community organizations, and provides support to clients in SSDI denials, SNAP applications, and criminal record sealing. Upon graduation, Kayla hopes to work with an international food security or disaster relief organization before attending law school. Her ultimate goal is to work within the public interest sector to address the challenges of underserved, women immigrants and their families and create more need-responsive and comprehensive social safety-nets.
