She is interested in interdisciplinary research that combines her love for Sociology and Education studies to find solutions that will uplift and support communities of color. In the summer of 2022, she worked as a research intern with The Brookings Institution Metropolitan Division, where she supported efforts to examine the impact of economic policies on the wealth-building practices of Mexicans from the 19th to the 20th century. Mirka spent the spring semester of her junior year in Copenhagen, Denmark studying the construction of urban landscapes from a European perspective. Mirka’s goal upon graduation is to work in local city governments focusing on leading community engagement projects, expanding access to broadband, and developing city-wide financial literacy programming.
