Karel Čapek’s celebrated sci-fi script introduced the word “robot” to the world! Over a century later, opportunities and cautionary tales surrounding AI flood our daily lives. Wellesley College Theatre will immerse you in a new adaptation of Čapek’s dynamic narrative - clashing humans against the very machines they created.

Rossum’s Universal Robots turns out millions of manufactured workers with no souls, desires or feelings. When Helena Glory, president of the Humanitarian League, arrives at the secret R.U.R. factory to advocate for improving Robots’ existence, she sets off a passionate debate which impacts the future of humanity. Flash forward one decade: the Earth’s remaining humans fight for survival and relevance against a global revolt of all evolved Robots. Who will win?

Performances will take place on the following dates:

  • Thursday, December 7 at 7:00pm
  • Friday, December 8 at 7:00pm
  • Satuday, December 9 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm
