German Studies

Welcome to German Studies.

Our department continually works at building a space in which all students and members of the community feel welcomed, included, supported, and valued. We are committed to giving each of you a voice and to celebrating diversity in its many manifestations, including place of origin, ethnicity, race, religion, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and disability.

We offer an exciting curriculum that includes beginning and advanced language courses as well as courses on film, culture, and literature.

Our courses introduce our students to a wide range of texts and contexts to acquaint you with the cultural traditions and with contemporary life of Germany, Austria, and German-speaking Switzerland. Our language courses emphasize quick acquisition of communication skills. Many of our upper-level courses are conducted in German, thus students can achieve a high level of fluency and familiarity with all sorts of aspects of German cultures.
We offer an exciting (paid) internship program in Dresden and various opportunities to study abroad. And we have amazing advanced students who work with our students outside of classes. So please check us out!
This website is designed to provide you with information on our faculty, curriculum, study abroad programs, students, alumnae, events, and activities.
