Tanner Conference Spotlights the Experiential Learning that Deepens a Liberal Arts Education
Established through the generosity of Wellesley College trustee emerita Estelle “Nicki” Newman Tanner ’57, the Tanner Conference celebrates the relationship between the liberal arts classroom and student participation in an increasingly diverse and interdependent world. At once intellectually compelling and personal, conference presentations focus on the experiences of students and alumnae in internships, service learning, international study, experiential study in courses, research conducted away from Wellesley, and fellowships.
The 2016 Tanner Conference takes place today, October 27, at the Science Center, and reflects the broad range of presenters’ study areas and interests, with manifold individual presentations and panels grouped by topic: Culture and the Arts; Empowerment of Youth, Women, and Families; Health and Medicine Beyond Borders; Identity, Community, and Global Citizenship; and Technology, Innovation, and Education.
The first of four presentation sessions begins at 9:15 am, with the final ending at 4:10 pm. Between taking in such subjects as “Shepherd for a Summer: Leaving the Desk for Life at the Farm,” “The Impact of a Conversation,” and “Virtual Reality: Photorealism, Skeuomorphic Design, and How I Created My Own Action Figure,” attendees may enjoy meals as well as performances by the Wellesley College Guild of Carillonneurs.
