Alumnae Leaders

Wellesley is the preeminent liberal arts college for educating and empowering women world leaders.

This is no coincidence. Leadership requires more than even the best education; one must be able to make connections and interrogate assumptions—precisely those qualities that distinguish the way the liberal arts are approached at Wellesley. The best liberal arts curricula are interdisciplinary and focused on applications to real-world problems… and this has led to our remarkable track record in preparing women for participation in traditional spheres of power.

Moreover, our diverse campus community produces graduates with an acute cultural intelligence and a rare social fluency across a wide range of cultures, races, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds. Whether in the classroom or the dining hall, our students practice the skills of collaboration, persuasion, and negotiation, developing a measure of self-confidence that sets them apart from their peers.

Wellesley’s long-held belief in “leadership as service” means that our alumnae are dedicated to making a meaningful contribution wherever they find themselves in the world. So it’s no surprise that many of our graduates have dedicated their lives to public service and diplomacy. Our graduates make up the world’s most powerful women’s network and include two U.S. secretaries of state, senior members of foreign governments, and international advocates for human rights—especially for the rights of women and children.
