Learning Goals for EAS Students
Students completing the EAS major will:
- Develop comprehensive knowledge in the area of concentration from a variety of disciplines, including art, history, literature, linguistics, politics and religion, and acquire a robust understanding of the contribution and relationship of East Asia to the world.
- Produce creative arguments and critically analyze primary and secondary sources.
- Formulate comparative and transcultural perspectives from which to examine phenomena in traditional and contemporary East Asia.
- Display a mastery of language proficiency appropriate for social and professional settings in speaking, listening, reading and writing in at least one of three East Asian languages: Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Korean as well as in English.
