What if I need help when Health Services is closed?

Call our office at 781.283.2810 where you can connect with an on-call provider who can answer your medical questions.

Our on-call service is available 24/7 when Health Services is not open. When you contact our on-call service, you will first speak with an answering service to provide basic information and the reason for your call. Upon sending your message, a provider will contact you within 20 - 30 minutes and provide medical advice. Please note that our on-call providers can see your medical records in order to easily communicate information with Health Services and allow us to follow up if necessary.

 

*** For any medical emergencies that cannot wait for a call back from our on-call provider, please contact the Campus Police at 781.283.5555 or dial 911 immediately.

What can the on-call clinician help me with?

Our on-call clinicians can help provide treatment advice and options for any medical questions or concerns.

 

These medical issues include but are not limited to : 

  • Symptom Management including Flu/COVID-19 Symptoms, Rashes, Etc.
  • Symptom Review including "Red Flag" Symptoms that Indicate When to Follow Up
  • OTC Medication Reccomendations
  • Whether to Seek Care at the Emergency Department or at Urgent Care
What can the on-call clinician NOT help me with?

Our on-call clinicians cannot help with routine matters that can typically wait until the next business day.

 

These routine matters include but are not limited to : 

  • Medication Refills
  • Scheduling Appointments
  • Forms & Paperwork
  • Protocols/Inquiries Specific to Wellesley College

 

*** Please remember that our on-call clinicians are affiliated with Newton-Wellesley Hospital and may not have specific information concerning Wellesley College readily available.

What should I do if I test positive for COVID-19 when Health Services is closed?
  • Take a deep breath, and do not panic! :)
  • Whether you test positive for COVID-19 through Color or an at-home test, remember to report this through the Wellesley Toolbox.
  • You will need to immediately begin your five-day isolation period. This can be initiated on your own and does not require any further action prior to doing so.
    • You should remain in your room unless you are using the restroom or picking up a meal. Masking is required if you must be around other people including your roomate. 
  • You will be contacted by Health Services to follow up on your symptoms and isolation period upon recieving your report.
    • Please note that Health Services may not contact you immediately depending on when your report was recieved. Rest assured, this is okay! You should be contacted within one business day.
    • If you have any questions or concerns regarding your symptoms that cannot wait until the next business day, you should call our office at 781.283.2810. Please note that if you call our office after hours, you will reach an on-call provider who you can discuss your questions and concerns with.

 

*** Please remember that questions or concerns regarding isolation and masking protocols specific to Wellesley College cannot be addressed by an on-call provider.

What if I need help in-person when Health Services is closed?

You may seek medical attention at your local urgent care center or emergency department. If you are unsure whether or not you should be evaluated, you may speak with our on-call clinicians who can better advise and further assist you.
