Inclusion and Engagement

Inclusion and Engagement

The Inclusion and Engagement Area supports Wellesley College’s commitment to educating students for local and global leadership. This is achieved by implementing an integrated co-curricular program of intercultural education that equips students with the knowledge and skills they need for life and leadership in a diverse, ever-changing and interdependent world. This area includes the Office of Intercultural Education and Slater International Center.

About the Office of Intercultural Education

The mission of the Office of Intercultural Education is to promote the cultural competence development of students through intercultural activities and programs. It also provides support and advocacy for students of color and students who identify as LGBTQ+ through Acorns and Harambee Houses and the LGBTQ Programs and Services.

About Slater International Center

The Slater International Center was established by the benefactors Priscilla Allen Slater ’16 and her husband Ellis Dwinnell Slater in the 1970s to encourage greater understanding among all cultures through personal association and cooperative endeavor. Slater is the focal point for international activities on campus and a space for anyone in the community with the desire to increase intercultural understanding and establish global connections. It is a place where students from diverse backgrounds gather informally and create long-lasting friendships. Student organizations and academic departments use Slater International Center regularly for meetings, events, and cultural celebrations.
