To encourage greater understanding among all cultures through personal association and cooperative endeavor.
This was the purpose of the Center, as established by the benefactors Priscilla Allen Slater ’16 and her husband Ellis Dwinnell Slater in the 1970s. Today, the Center continues to focus on the advancement of this mission through its activities, services, and involvement in the larger College community.
Slater International Center is the focal point for international activities on campus and a space for anyone in the community with the desire to increase intercultural understanding and establish global connections. It is a place where students from diverse backgrounds gather informally and create long-lasting friendships. Student organizations and academic departments use Slater International Center regularly for meetings, events, and cultural celebrations.
Programs and Services
The Slater staff works closely with the Slater International Student Organization and other offices and departments at Wellesley College to provide a variety of services to support international students and scholars. These services include advising, and referrals, and programs related to immigration, employment, academic, social and cultural adjustment issues. The Slater International Center also supports international and cultural student organizations and promotes global student leadership by encouraging collaboration and inclusion.
The Slater International Center is the department on-campus authorized by the College to provide immigration advising, including immigration advocacy. Slater also sits on the Immigration Working Group Committee, a group made up of students, faculty, and staff that helps the college to respond to the needs of students and other members of the community who may be feeling vulnerable in light of the quickly changing political climate and regulations related to immigration and refugee status. This group also advises the Senior Leadership of the College on how to best support members of the college community to uphold the commitment to a residential learning environment free from hostility and fear.
Slater International Student Organization
